Staying informed about weather changes is crucial for daily planning. Your iPhone's built-in Weather app offers notifications for precipitation and severe weather events, ensuring you're always prepared. Here's how to set them up:

1. Enable Precise Location Access

Accurate weather notifications depend on precise location data. To enable this:

  • Open the Settings app.
  • Tap Privacy & Security, then select Location Services.
  • Scroll down and tap Weather.
  • Choose Always under "Allow Location Access."
  • Toggle on Precise Location.

2. Allow Notifications from the Weather App

To receive alerts, ensure the Weather app has permission to send notifications:

  • Go to Settings.
  • Tap Notifications.
  • Select Weather.
  • Toggle on Allow Notifications.
  • Customize your notification preferences (e.g., Banners, Sounds, Badges).

3. Enable Precipitation Notifications

To receive alerts about upcoming rain or snow:

  • Open the Weather app.
  • Tap the Location List icon (three lines) at the bottom-right corner.
  • Tap the More button (three dots) in the top-right corner, then select Notifications.
  • If prompted, allow notifications from the Weather app.
  • Under "Current Location," toggle on Severe Weather and Next-Hour Precipitation.
  • For other locations, tap the location name, then toggle on the desired notifications.
  • Tap Done to save your settings.

4. Enable Severe Weather Notifications

To receive alerts about severe weather events:

  • Open the Weather app.
  • Tap the Location List icon.
  • Tap the More button, then select Notifications.
  • Under "Current Location," toggle on Severe Weather.
  • For other locations, tap the location name, then toggle on Severe Weather.
  • Tap Done to confirm.

5. Manage Notifications for Suggested Locations

To receive notifications for locations suggested by your iPhone:

  • Open the Settings app.
  • Tap Privacy & Security, then Location Services.
  • Tap System Services.
  • Toggle on Significant Locations & Routes.
  • Return to Settings > Weather > Location, and select Always.
  • Toggle on Suggested Locations.
  • Open the Weather app, tap the Location List icon, then the More button, and select Notifications.
  • Under "Suggested Locations," toggle on Severe Weather.
  • Tap Done to save.
