Common Weather Alerts Athletes Should Monitor

  • Severe Thunderstorm Watch: Conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms.

  • Severe Thunderstorm Warning: Severe thunderstorms are imminent or occurring, with wind gusts of 58 mph or higher and/or hail 1 inch in diameter or larger.

  • Tornado Watch: Conditions are favorable for tornadoes.

  • Tornado Warning: A tornado is imminent or occurring.

  • Flash Flood Watch: Conditions are favorable for flash flooding.

  • Flash Flood Warning: Flash flooding is imminent or occurring.

  • Heat Advisory: Heat index values are expected to be between 105°F and 110°F for at least two hours.

  • Excessive Heat Warning: Heat index values are expected to be above 110°F for at least two hours.
